We make a difference through mentoring.

The Peer Mentoring in a Virtual University Setting (PMVUS) program pairs undergraduates with graduate students to promote and support Hispanic representation in engineering fields.

It aims to expose and prepare undergraduates for advanced degree programs through peer mentoring. For graduate students, this program is a mentorship opportunity to increase minority participation in advanced degree programs, applicable to both professional and research based paths.

We are funded by a GIANT Grant through the IDEA Institute in the Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois.

Why it matters

Hispanic students face inequitable gaps in their educational experience such as accessibility to campus resources, navigating professional opportunities, and understanding the process to pursue an advanced degree.

With Hispanic graduate student mentors, Hispanic undergraduates can connect with someone within their community that would support them to further explore their interests and ensure accountability.

Building Community

People studying STEM should have a sense of belonging in STEM. Our community building events address this by engaging participants in socials and goal setting activities.

Our invited speakers also empower our community through inspiring talks that connect with leadership, professional, and personal development.
